The objective of this course is for the trainees to obtain a working knowledge and proficiency of the American Society of Anesthesiologists Difficult Airway Management Guidelines and its associated airway management techniques.
The purpose of this course is to review important facts and concepts related to Emergency Airway Management, develop skills using Emergency Airway Equipment, and integrate knowledge, skills and judgment related to Managing an Airway in a simulated clinical environment.
The purpose of the Basic Emergency Airway Management Course is to provide individuals administering moderate sedation with the ability to provide emergency airway management support, should the need arise until help arrives. This skill set is critical in that the most common cause of morbidity and mortality associated with sedation arises from failure to recognize and manage hypoventilation and hypoxia associated with over sedation. It is critical that healthcare providers providing sedation be able to provide ventilatory support rapidly in that the typical progression from hypoxia to respiratory and cardiac arrest may occur in less than three minutes such that it is imperative that initial management and rescue begin as it may take several minutes for an emergency response team to arrive and re-establish ventilation.
The goal of this course is to provide you with the opportunity to obtain a working knowledge of difficult airway management and how to apply the difficult airway algorithm to your patients in the Emergency Department.
